Thank you, little bird!
Thank you, little bird!
We came home from our Norway trip this Aug 5, and I noticed a pumpkin sapling growing outside in a very peculiar place. I had to smile because these are some of the things I talk to the kids about in my classes; how seeds can be transported all over the place by birds, squirrels, and other outdoor critters. I decided that this miss placed sapling deserved to grow! So I’ve nurtured it with water and fertilizer, and it’s taken over the little piece of land off our back porch. I imagine a little bird perched in the tree above that accidentally dropped this seed. How fortunate that the seed found a fertile area to grow!
We aren’t just cooking in our classes. I teach the students about sustainability and nutrition, hoping that tasting, smelling, and working with something edible would help some of the information stick. These are skills our kids need for a lifetime. They are skills that help them discern the world around them.
